2017 Travel Event: New Visitor Record

With 80 exhibitors, a record of far more than 15,000 visitors and a festival area connecting the former location with the distribution and logistics center, the 2017 Touratech Travel Event has reached a new dimension.

“For me, this has been, by far, not only the biggest, but also the greatest Travel Event ever”, said Touratech CEO Herbert Schwarz, overwhelmed by the huge crowd and the many positive emotions.

Thanks to the full closure of the L 423 road, the event area had been expanded by about one third. The usually heavily trafficked road was now turned into a long row of show trucks, exhibition booths and catering stands. This new concept made the 2017 Touratech Travel Event the biggest event the small Black Forest town of Niedereschach has ever seen, in both size and number of visitors. This became apparent right from the start. Only on Friday evening, a heavy rain storm made the people seek refuge under the roofs. Saturday and Sunday made up for this with the most beautiful summer weather.

However, it’s not the numbers but the people and their stories, the new and the old friendships and the many good conversations that made this event so special. Amongst the visitors from all over the world were Touratech partners and friends from Poland, Ireland, Great Britain, Belgium, France, Spain, Turkey, Uruguay, Peru, Chile, India, Australia and a group of 36 riders from Thailand. All these people have one thing in common, the passion for motorcycling, and this was palpable throughout the entire Travel Event.

With BMW, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Suzuki, Triumph and Yamaha, all the big motorcycle manufacturers were represented; most of them turned up with their impressive show trucks. Whether it’s a tourer or a naked bike, a roadster or an adventure bike – almost all current motorbike models could be tried and tested, and many visitors made use of that. As a special treat, Yamaha brought theT7 concept bike, a modern version of the legendary Ténéré.

The tours and ride-outs, ranging from slow-paced to challenging, were very popular. Participants could follow the “Trace of the Cuckoo Clock”, go on a “Black Forest Whiskey Tour” or experience “Curves without Ends”. For off-road fans, the Ducati Riding Experience Enduro was a great opportunity to test their limits. And the 2017 BMW Motorrad GS Trophy Qualifier Germany provided even more motorcycle action; the same goes for the trial shows on the Travel Event grounds.

Workshops and lectures were part of the programme, as well as behind-the-scenes-tours, interviews with exhibitors, and presentations on the main stage.

Two projects were particularly outstanding: The introduction of Adventure Country Tracks (ACT) II with a thrilling trailer of the scouting in Greece and the newest coup of Touratech Racing: Competing in the Red Bull Romaniacs from July 25th to 29th with a modified R nineT, a bike that rather stands for lifestyle and relaxed cruising instead of dirtbiking in its most extreme form. Gerhard Forster, who already made many top ten finishes for Touratech Racing amongst the world’s best extreme enduro riders, will take Touratech’s R9X across the Carpathians.

Who hasn’t dreamt of leaving the daily routine behind and give life an entirely new direction? This is exactly what Rolf Lange did when he travelled through 42 countries on five continents within 17 months. On Friday, his lecture "The“Big Time-Out” was the opener of the evening programme on the main stage. Also, Martin Leonhardt brought beautiful pictures and stories from his tour across Latin America. His “Crazy Travels” premiered at the Travel Event and surprised with the realization that the big journey had only just begun after three and a half years and 100,000 kilometres.

Another premiere led us into another corner of the world, the new Touratech movie „Soul Shelter“ by Ramona and Herbert Schwarz. The impressive vastness and the scenic variety of South Australia, captured in stunning pictures, fascinated the audience under the big polygon tent.

“The Travel Event has become a huge contact exchange all about motorcycle riding and travelling. If we can inspire people to do just that, we’re extremely happy”, is the final conclusion of Touratech CEO Schwarz.
